The Birth of Baby J – Home Birth Photographer, Nashville TN

The Birth of Cheyenne – Home Birth Photographer, Nashville TN

It was a dark and stormy night.

Okay well… that’s NOT this kind of story. But it DID end up being a dark and stormy night when Baby J came earthside! :) lol

Wait wait wait… let’s back up a bit. Meagan and I met up originally at a sweet little smoothie place to talk about her birth story photography ideas. From the get-go, it was SO comfortable between us! Like we had been friends for YEARS. It was great! She was AMAZING, and brought her two little boys with her, so I was able to meet them for the first time too. We basically talked about her birth plans: homebirth, with just her husband present and possibly her two young sons, gender-surprise, all-natural and drug-free birth, she wanted skin-to-skin, exclusive breastfeeding, and all in all, just a wonderfully comfortable birth at home with her family there. I was enthralled as she told me all of her plans… everything so carefully thought out and detailed… it was beautiful to hear!

Fast forward to a couple of days before the birth. Meagan had been feeling some contractions for awhile, but nothing consistent or anything. This went on like this for a couple of days at least… every night, I was packed and charged and ready to go… just waiting on Baby to make an entrance. Finally… the announcement came. It was the middle of the afternoon, perfectly timed (as babies somehow always do)…

Baby on the way!

(to see this amazing homebirth, check out the GORGEOUS video at the bottom of this post!)

I got a text from Meagan saying she thinks it’s getting close… we talked a bit about how she was feeling during each contraction, how quickly they were coming… and based on what she told me and with my experience with laboring mama’s, I knew it was time to hightail it over to Meagan’s house without delay.

I arrived around 4:14p that afternoon, and Meagan & Chris were already working hard as a team to bring their baby boy or baby girl earthside. They had chosen to be surprised when the baby was born, so they were waiting until then to see if they had a boy or a girl. (I love those births!) Meagan’s midwife had already arrived and was prepping while monitoring Meagan and Baby. It wasn’t long before Meagan moved to the floor next to the master bed… where she quietly (yes! she was so QUIET!!! just a few groans and heavy breaths! This woman is AMAZING!!) gave birth to their newest little bundle of joy… Miss Cheyenne Rose. <3

The image above was taken just seconds before Mama and Daddy found out whether they had a son or a daughter… such a beautiful moment. Stopped in time, and captured forever on film. I love these moments. <3

Oh, oh… about the dark and stormy night… when I left this new little family of five, it was POURING down rain outside. Perfect weather for a new little girl to make her debut. <3 Amazing night.
